Climate[]

Summerwind is seated at the tail end of Faimoor, east of Green Harbor. The rocks around Curling Cliffs Cove are formed from an ancient volcano edge that has been weathered down over centuries. Deep magma underneath the water makes the water in this region warmer, especially in certain areas that form geothermal hot springs. The hot springs are cooled by cold ocean water and rain coming from the northeastern side of the island, making them safe to enter for most humanoids.

It has a moist tropical rain forest, and has small delineation of dry and wet seasons, though the warmer seasons are sometimes categorized at risk of forming hurricanes and the cooler season has less rainfall overall. Abundant sources of water allow vegetation to flourish in the area, many of which have magical or medicinal properties. Areas near the settlement are cleared for farmland and to discourage the many types of wildlife from wandering too close to homesteads. There is a long path carved between Summerwind and Green Harbor through the thicker forest, but most would encourage visitors not to travel through alone.

Axebeaks are more common mounts than horses. They are faster runners and are more adept at gripping onto uneven terrain to avoid slippage when traveling through the forest. They were domesticated long ago by the island inhabitants, thus wild Axebeaks are less likely to charge humanoids on Faimoor than Axebeaks from other regions of Highwater where they are known for a more territorial temperament.

Economy[]

The town grows and deals in exports of coffee, which is carted to Green Harbor and shipped elsewhere, and additionally accrues money through slight tourism from sailors docking in the nearby city for longer stays. Some locals make a bit of extra money by leading visitors through the Southern Run Covert or by offering Axebeak-ride tours. There are two or three restaurants run by families whose patrons are largely other locals of the area.

Notable Locations[]

Mixed Bucket[]

A general store owned by Eline Bucket, a three-quarters-human and quarter-elven woman. She makes her own fireworks for sale, but is particular about only handing them out to people who seem responsible enough to wield the minor explosives.

Melora's Temple[]

Since the island resides in hurricane territory, many inhabitants find it a smart decision to pray to the Goddess of Nature for protection, particularly after a recent storm struck Summerwind around eight years ago.

Aria's Apothecary[]

The local druid, Aria Bucket, is well-known by all and beloved by most in Summerwind as her treatments for rattlegasp saved many inhabitants when a plague broke out some years ago. She runs the apothecary out of her home, like most businesses in Summerwind, and also uses the space as a clinic when necessary.
